Pecos Bill is a larger than life cowboy whose tall tales, performing impossible feats and shaping famous landmarks in a manner not unlike Paul Bunyan, are a symbol of the exploration of the West. He was raised by coyotes and could lasso almost anything. While usually assumed to be part of American folklore, the tales weren't authentic folklore but invented and first published in 1917 by magazine writer Edward O'Reilly, with other authors adding their own stories later on.
Disney featured the character as the concluding segment of the animated package feature Melody Time (told and sung by Roy Rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers). The song from that film was later incorporated into the Disneyland show The Golden Horseshoe Revue as the finale, with Wally Boag playing Pecos Bill.
Other screen portrayals of Pecos Bill include an episode of Shelley Duvall's Tall Tales & Legends and the film Tall Tale.
