Actor and singer Peter Marshall (1927-2024) was best known for his Emmy Award-winning role as the host of The Hollywood Squares from 1966 to 1981.
During Marshall's run on The Hollywood Squares (and the Saturday morning version, The Storybook Squares), Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch made many appearances. Just as he did with Mr. Hooper, Big Bird would struggle with Marshall's name, referring to him as, for example, Mr. Marshmallow.
Besides his hosting duties, Marshall has appeared on Broadway, the film musical Annie, The Love Boat, and the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta H.M.S. Pinafore.
