Pigs in Space is an online video series launched in 2016, based on the original recurring sketch from The Muppet Show. It stars Miss Piggy as First Mate Piggy, Link Hogthrob as Captain Link Hogthrob, and Dr. Julius Strangepork on board the spaceship Swinetrek. The updated series features a CGI render of the ship, with the crew in their original uniforms.
The videos were filmed at YouTube Space LA in March of 2015,[1] and were co-written and directed by Kirk Thatcher.[2] According to comments made by Steve Whitmire at the D23 Expo in August 2015, the team "shot four or five 'Pigs in Space' videos."[3] Two unreleased videos, both Star Wars spoofs, were shelved due to complaints from Lucasfilm, who were concerned that the humorous take on the film series would damage the brand. These shorts featured Pepe the King Prawn as "Prawn Solo," Fozzie Bear as "Chew-Wocka-Wocka," Kermit the Frog as "Luke Flyswatter" and Piggy as Leia.[4]
