Plan 9 from Outer Space is a 1959 film made by the infamous low-budget auteur Ed Wood (who wrote, directed, produced, and edited). Using the last footage of Wood's frequent star Bela Lugosi (who died three years prior), it told the story of aliens who, to prevent humanity from inventing a destructive invention, resurrect the dead.
The film developed a reputation and cult following as the worst movie ever made.
