Princess Ruby is the titular protagonist of "The Story of Princess Ruby," published within Big Bird's Busy Book.
In the story, Princess Ruby enjoys painting a picture of the royal red roses, when she's startled by a fox and spills paint all over herself. She is forced to take an extended bath (her second of the day) to clean up, and her favorite overalls are ruined. Ruby blames her woes in the color red and has her mother, Queen Rosalie, formally ban the color red from the kingdom.
However, Ruby soon comes to regret that decision when she can no longer enjoy some of her favorite things in life - strawberry jam on her sandwich, valentines cards, and the story of Little Red Riding Hood. At the bequest of her daughter, Queen Rosalie issues a new proclamation bringing the color red back into the kingdom. Ruby is so glad to have the color red back that she now wants everything she owns to be red.
