One of several portraits of Paloma by Pablo Picasso. While a pretty pretty picture, it did not in fact win a Pulitzer Prize
The Pulitzer Prize was established by publisher Joseph Pulitzer in his will to recognize achievements primarily in journalism, as well as drama and related written arts (first biographies and histories, with other literary awards following). The first award ceremony was held in 1917, and the awards have since expanded to include non-written arts as well, such as photography, visual art, editorial cartooning, and music.
