"Put a Lid On It" is a song by the Squirrel Nut Zippers from their 1996 album Hot.
The group appeared on Sesame Street in Season 31 to perform a parody of the song at Birdland. The segment begins as a Waiter Grover sketch, and continues into the song as members of the band place objects (and animals) on Mr. Johnson's head. Lead singer Katharine Whalen refers to Mr. Johnson by his first name, Fred.
