A python appears to both aid and frustrate Monty in Episode 3082 of Sesame Street.
The English-accented reptile accompanies Monty throughout the episode, as Monty tells the viewer when the program has reached its beginning, middle, and end. The python drives Monty mad not only by constantly addressing him as various high-ranking officials (such as "captain," "your worship," and "admiral"), but also needing clarification on what Monty is talking about. Monty uses the body of the "silly asp" to point out where he starts and ends, finding the python is most ticklish in his middle.
His species and association with Monty act as a tribute to the Monty Python troupe. The puppet was originally used as Sammy the Snake for the song "Hello, Sammy!" with Carol Channing.
