Raphael is the hothead of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as seen in the 1990 Creature Shop film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. Named after Renaissance painter Raphael Sanzio, he often clashes with his brothers, particularly Leonardo over his leadership skills, and as such acts impulsively, which at one point accidentally leads the Foot Clan directly to their lair.

For the first movie, Josh Pais was both voice and suit performer, while David Greenaway was the facial puppeteer for both films. Kenn Troum, who had been Raphael's stunt performer in the first movie, took over as the suit performer in The Secret of the Ooze, with Laurie Faso dubbing the voice.
