While most animation directors begin as animators, Ray Lee had originally been a camera operator. He started with Filmation in the late sixties on their Archie cartoons, The Batman/Superman Hour, and others. A ten year stint with DePatie-Freleng followed, working on the Pink Panther shorts, Dr. Seuss specials, and The Fantastic Four among others. He moved to Hanna-Barbera (Super Friends, The Smurfs, The Jetsons,The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, etc.) but then went to Marvel Productions (which came about after DePatie-Freleng sold to Marvel).
