ReelClassicExtra

Reel Classics Extra is a weekly sports-themed movie block on ESPN Classic. Starting on August 28, 2005 (and continuing for 19 weeks), Statler and Waldorf introduced the weekly film with antics from the balcony. The brief introductory clips were filmed as part of production for From the Balcony - using the same puppets, sets, and crew. Aside from introducing the films, the clips heavily promoted the webshow with on-screen pop-up advertisements saying "for more Statler & Waldorf go to Movies.com". An archive of these introductions was added to the From the Balcony website afterwards in 2006, but were removed after all From the Balcony content was removed from the website.

Puppeteers Victor Yerrid (Waldorf) and Drew Massey (Statler) helmed the characters in these introductions.

This is a perfect opportunity for Statler & Waldorf to once again show off their talents. We are thrilled to extend the Muppets brand and characters on a recurring basis to a great ESPN platform.
—David Spingarn, The Muppets Holding Company's Director of Creative Business Development

Reel Classics Extra is a chance each Sunday for sports fans to relax, unwind and wrap up their weekend with a great sports movie. Statler and Waldorf are a perfect fit to introduce these movies because, like the movies, they are classics in their own right. They are going to bring our fans some good laughs and kick off these movies in a great way.
—Jodi Markley, ESPN Classic's senior VP of production
