Ron Howard (b. 1954) is an Academy Award-winning motion picture director and former child actor. Transitioning from such roles as the lisping brother in The Music Man and Opie on The Andy Griffith Show, Howard starred as Richie Cunningham on the television series Happy Days.
He appeared in character as Richie, opposite Henry Winkler (as the Fonz), in several sketches on Sesame Street beginning in 1978. He later directed the 2024 documentary Jim Henson: Idea Man for his production company Imagine Entertainment (which also produced several Frank Oz films, including HouseSitter and Bowfinger). He also wrote a foreword for the 2024 edition of Jim Henson's Imagination Illustrated.
Howard presented Sesame Street with a Directors Guild of America Honor at the 2024 DGA Honors ceremony, which was accepted on the show's behalf by Sesame Workshop's Kay Wilson Stallings. He was also photographed with Ernie and Stallings on the red carpet.[1]
Howard's other directorial pursuits include A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man, and Splash. He has been a contestant on The Dating Game, guest starred as himself on The Simpsons, and provided tongue-in-cheek narration on the sitcom Arrested Development (starring Jason Bateman, Jeffrey Tambor, and Jessica Walter), which he executive produced. He was named one of TV Land's 50 Greatest TV Icons, has his prints and signature engraved at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, and a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame.
