Jane Henson on set for the song
"Salt" is a novelty tune written by "Jack" Adrian Greenberg recorded by the group the Vagabonds, describing their visit to a weary purveyor of salt who has more of the product than he knows what to do with (due to constantly being sold salt by another salesperson).
The recording was utilized a number of times on Sam and Friends, notably being a piece devised by Jane Henson herself while Jim was traveling in Europe in 1958. She conceived of the routine and staging, while Bob Payne created the salt-laden set. The piece is known to be have been performed on February 26 and November 4, 1959.
