Samuel Beckett was an Irish playwright (and author of novels, short stories, and poetry as well). Beckett's plays were marked by abstract or existentialist themes, surreal elements, and often minimalist trappings and are considered important contributions to the Theatre of the Absurd.
Waiting for Godot is one of the best known Beckett plays and typical of his work.
