Sandy the Snake is a friend of Ernie's, as seen in the Sesame Street song, "Do What I Do."
Ernie attempts to show him how one's actions can express how they feel, but Sandy gets frustrated, as all the things Ernie demonstrates he cannot do (such as clicking his heels when he's happy, blowing his nose when he's sad and clenching his fists when he's angry). He then shows Ernie what he does when he's angry - he sharpens his fangs and rattles. Ernie then realizes that Sandy is a rattlesnake and runs off in fear.
