Sardi's is an upscale New York City restaurant, located in the theater district, and famed for its wall of celebrity caricatures. The restaurant is featured prominently in The Muppets Take Manhattan, where Kermit the Frog pretends to be a producer by inserting his own caricature on the walls, replacing that of Liza Minnelli. The rats also assist, creating a whispering campaign amongst Sardi's patrons. The plan is less than successful, and Vincent Sardi evicts the entire group. Following the film, the caricature remained a feature at the restaurant, hung up on the second floor.
In 2022, a series of videos promoting Sesame Street: The Musical were recorded at the restaurant featuring Elmo. He draws his own caricature (YouTube), frames himself as a Broadway legend (YouTube), and seeks advice from the caricatures of Lin-Manuel Miranda and Bette Midler (YouTube).
