Jim Henson's Scary Scary Monsters is a pop-up book that launched a group of original characters appearing in a series of books.
Two of the characters from the series, Zuzu and Norbert, were produced as plush dolls.
In addition to the originally created Shooby, Smooch, Zuzu, Mungo, Monstradamus, and Norbert, an existing Muppet character was also included in the fold. Splurge, having first appeared in the special Hey Cinderella!, appeared in the series and was featured in his own story, New Friend, Blue Friend.
