See me Dance the Polka TMS405
Written by George Grossmith
Date 1886

"See Me Dance the Polka" is a popular polka from the late 19th century. It has been used in such films as the 1941 version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with Ingrid Bergman and 2002's The Time Machine with Mark Addy.

It has been performed on The Muppet Show on several occasions, often to punctuate something as sounding Swedish (despite no correlation with the song's origins).

Begging to be released from the magic box he's stuck inside throughout episode 117's backstage plot, Fozzie Bear asserts that The Muppet Show without him is like poca without hontas. When Kermit replies, "What's a polka?," Miss Piggy and George the Janitor enter the scene dancing to "See Me Dance the Polka."

When a performance of "America" from West Side Story in episode 317 becomes an international medley of songs, The Swedish Chef joins the cacophony playing "See Me Dance the Polka" on a concertina.

After Kermit announces that the Swedish-sounding Victor Borge will be the guest in episode 405, Chef gleefully enters with his concertina playing the song. When Kermit tells him Borge is actually Danish, Chef tosses the concertina aside in dismissal.

As the final stage of a gypsy curse placed on the show in episode 416, everyone in the cast begins speaking mock Swedish. At the culmination of chaos, Chef gaily joins his lingual brethren, once again playing "See Me Dance the Polka" on his concertina.
