Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953) was a Russian composer, and one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. He is most well known for writing Peter and the Wolf, and a ballet based on Romeo and Juliet. He also wrote seven other ballets, seven operas, seven symphonies, eight film scores, and several other concertos, sonatas, and other orchestral works.

- Peter and the Wolf has been featured by the Muppets several times, most notably as the centerpiece for the Sesame Street home video, Elmo's Musical Adventure: Peter and the Wolf.
- A segment on Sesame Street features Isaac Stern playing violin for Big Bird and the Kids in the yard, among them the March from Prokofiev's The Love for Three Oranges. (First: Episode 2658)
- The March was also featured on the B side of the record included with the first issue of Sesame Street Music Magazine.
- Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy attended a performance of Prokofiev's Cinderella ballet in a 1985 episode of Great Performances.
- "Troika" from Lieutenant Kijé is featured on Elmo's Music to Move By.
