Sesame Street's 50th Anniversary Celebration! is an upcoming primetime special celebrating Sesame Street's 50th anniversary is set to air in November 2019 on both HBO and PBS.[1][2] The special will be released on DVD soon after on December 3.[3]

The special was announced as early as July 2018, where it was said to feature celebrity guests, along with "new takes on classic segments" and "visits from Sesame Street icons,"[1] while also focusing on "the show’s cultural impact."[2] Later, Amazon.com shared plot details on its product page for the DVD release:

Sesame Street's 50th year is the perfect opportunity for a music- and memory-filled special for the entire family. It's the biggest celebration ever on The Street, and lots of friends are on hand to share in the fun. But the celebration could be derailed if it's discovered that the iconic Sesame Street sign has mysteriously gone missing. It's up to some resourceful Muppets to try to find out what has happened to the sign and try to get it back without disrupting the festivities.[3]

The special, written by Christine Ferraro, began production the week of May 14, 2019.[4] A secondary special celebrating the anniversary will also debut in the fall for PBS' pledge drive season.[5]
