Kermit helps Don Music finish the "Yankee Doodle" song, then because Don finds the idea of calling feathers macaroni ridiculous, they rewrite it to be a song in which Yankee Doodle stays at home cooking for his pony, puts "fat spaghetti" in a pot and calls it macaroni. Little Chrissy and the Alphabeats then come in and perform the song with Don.
Scripts initially title the segment "Don Music Round II," acknowledging it as the second segment produced. In the segment as scripted, Kermit initially complains to somebody off camera that he "never got royalties on that last one."
One of the curricular goals of the sketch, as mentioned in the script, is "Early American Culture," tying into the season's bicentennial theme.
