Sesame Street and Other Children's Pop Hits features covers of three Sesame Street songs. The album is notable as having been the source of Sesame Street’s "The Square Song" as heard in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
The album also includes songs from The Archie Show, Bozo, H.R. Pufnstuf, and the big-screen Pufnstuf film. Credited to The Pickwick Children's Chorus led by Laurie Ringham, others who appear on the album include Karen Sloane, Linda Sugin, Joanne Waserman, Babbie Rothstein and Stephanie Sugin.
