Elmo[]
Build-A-Bear Elmo, also called Build-An-Elmo or Make-Your-Own Elmo, was the first limited-edition Sesame Street plush offered by the toy boutique Build-A-Bear Workshop. The 18-inch plush debuted on October 8, 2004, delayed from its originally announced launch date of July 23, 2004. To celebrate the product launch, Build-A-Bear Workshop stores at Chicago's Navy Pier and Tyson's Corner Center in Virginia hosted walkaround Elmo appearances. The plush's retirement was announced on July 28th, 2005 with availability continuing until each store sold out.
Additional merchandise included a 4-message Elmo sound chip with the messages "Hi, it's Elmo!", "Elmo wants a hug!", "Aw, you're Elmo's friend!", and "Elmo loves you!". A plush-sized ringer tee, blue with darker blue trim and a graphic of Elmo's face on the front was also available.
In 2017 the plush, now 17 inches, returned to stores. Also available were a Smartie wristie, a new 6-message sound chip, a plush-sized one-piece pajama set with a pattern of Sesame Street characters, a pair of plush-sized Elmo slippers, and a plush-sized T-shirt and shorts set; the shirt was red and featured a graphic of Elmo, Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch on the front, while the shorts were blue and featured the Sesame Street logo.
