| Muppet Sherlock Holmes is a comic adaptation of multiple Sherlock Holmes stories: "The Speckled Band," "A Scandal in Bohemia," "The Red-Headed League," and a combination of "The Musgrave Ritual" and "The Final Problem."

In addition to the usual pairings of Holmes (Gonzo) and Watson (Fozzie), Kermit plays Lestrade, Miss Piggy portrays Irene Adler and Miss Hudson. Uncle Deadly is typecast as villainous figures, revealed to be Moriarty, and Rowlf plays Mycroft Holmes, who in this version is also a surgeon.
  +
  +
An unused preview cover reveals that Kermit had previously been cast in the title role. The fourth issue cover specifically spoofs the 2009 Sherlock Holmes film poster, with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law.

Inspired, Gonzo and Kermit play Sherlock Nose and Frogson, respectively, in the Muppet Babies episode "Sherlock Nose." Together they are on the case of Miss Nanny's broken flower pot, in order to clear Potato from any suspicion. Like Holmes, Sherlock Nose attempts to identify in detail origin of any substance he comes across, although with more mixed results.

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and first published in 1887. He and his companion, Dr. Watson, have been spoofed or portrayed many times in Muppet productions, and the character Baskerville was named after the Holmes novel The Hound of the Baskervilles.

Most of these portrayals rely heavily on the film characterization of Holmes by Basil Rathbone, including the familiar deerstalker cap and cape.

SherlockHemlock
Sherlock Hemlock from Sesame Street is a spoof of Holmes (and his dog Watson, a spoof of Dr. Watson). They even starred together in a series of segments on Mysterious Theater. In the teaser for the next show following "The Mystery of the Missing Cat" (First: Episode 2569), Vincent Twice says the next story will be "The Adventure of Sherlock Hemlock and the Giant Gnat of Sumatra" (referencing the Giant Rat of Sumatra, which Sherlock Holmes alludes to in "The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire" but which he says the world is not yet prepared to hear).
Rowlf as Sherlock
Rowlf portrayed Holmes, with Baskerville as Watson in "Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Disappearing Clues", the UK spot from episode 103 of The Muppet Show.

Muppetsherlockholmes1a
Muppet Sherlock Holmes is a comic adaptation of multiple Sherlock Holmes stories: "The Speckled Band," "A Scandal in Bohemia," "The Red-Headed League," and a combination of "The Musgrave Ritual" and "The Final Problem."

An unused preview cover reveals that Kermit had previously been cast in the title role. The fourth issue cover specifically spoofs the 2009 Sherlock Holmes film poster, with Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law.

Miss Nanny reads a Sherlock Holmes book to the kids in the Muppet Babies episode "Sherlock Nose", involving a case of missing shoes in Muppetville. She reads one of Sherlock's famous phrases, "The game is afoot."
