Shorty Awards 2010 Grover and Eric

The Shorty Awards are accolades bestowed on notable contributions made through the means of social media. First established in 2009 focusing on contributions made by users on Twitter, the awards have since recognized those on other platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and others.

2010[]

@sesamestreet wins in the "Best Brand" category in a ceremony hosted by CNN's Rick Sanchez at New York City's Times Center on March 3, 2010. Grover (and Eric Jacobson) appeared at the ceremony to deliver a 140 character acceptance speech, in reference to Twitter's post limit. Grover unravels a list of fictional characters he intends to read including, (before he's cut off), Hamlet, Tarzan, Superman, Mothra (Godzilla is later on the list), Tom Thumb, Pokémon, Mickey Mouse, Oliver Twist, and 132 munchkins. @TheMuppets tie with @DisneyPlus for "Best Overall Twitter Presence"[1] with entry credits acknowledged to Leigh Slaughter, Michael Steinbach, Jim Lewis, Debra Kohls, and Ryan Dosier.[2]

During the voting period, several Muppet accounts made tweets to acknowledge the nomination:

  • Kermit the Frog: "For once, I can take Shorty as a compliment! The Muppets are nominated for Best Overall Twitter Presence at the @shortyawards! You can vote every day to help @MissPiggy get another award for her mantel." [1]
  • Miss Piggy: "Though I’m already an award-winning actress, I’ve never been recognized for my social media brilliance… until now! The Muppets (including moi, of course) are nominated for Best Overall Twitter Presence at the @shortyawards! Vote every day to help us win!" [2]

Upon their win, @TheMuppets tweeted: "Thanks to our fabulous fans and fantastic followers for voting us the Best Overall Twitter Presence at the @ShortyAwards! Twitter is a perfect platform for our peculiar brand of lunacy… and now we have the award to prove it!" [3]
