Simon the Snail first appeared in the Mopatop's Shop episode "Flea Power," where he was one of the things Mopatop suggested the viewer for the day. The puppet would appear in other episodes with no direct mention of a name.
In the episode "Nowhere for a Square," the snail was looking for a new wheel for a snail skate. He looks into the bag with circles and discovers a perfect one for a hedgehog and many other animal-type skates. He wants to have the entire bag of circles so that he will have wheels for all of his friends. In this episode, he was performed by Nigel Plaskitt.
In the episode "Home Sweet Home," he was looking for a new home to replace the home he has lived in all his life.
The puppet was a recycled version of The Snail that appeared in The Tale of the Bunny Picnic, a puppet which had also been used for Alicia the Snail on The Animal Show.
