Sir Francis Drake (c. 1540 -1596) was an English naval pioneer, politician, and navigator of the Elizabethan era. The English considered him a privateer, but to the Spanish, he was a pirate. He was a favorite of Queen Elizabeth, and second-in command of the English fleet against the Spanish Armada. He died of dysentary while attacking San Juan, Puerto Rico.
