Smelly Tavales is a shady word dealer who appears in Episode 2706 of Sesame Street.
He visits Sesame Street and provides young, impressionable Elmo with a pro bono word - "NO." He encourages Elmo to use it all the time with everyone he encounters. Elmo's use of the word bothers Biff and confuses Maria, and later, prevents him from going mini-golfing with Gordon (to his dismay).
The adults later confront Smelly, who is giving more words to other youths. Gordon recoils at the other words he has to offer in his coat (not ones little kids should be using). Smelly asserts that as a citizen of the United States of America, he is free to peddle his wares to whomever he pleases. Gordon whispers a threat in Smelly's ear, sending him packing. Maria and Gordon take his remaining words and properly dispose of them in the trash.
