Uncle Matt watches a Silly Creature play Space Invaders
Space Invaders is a 1978 arcade game which proved widely popular (and profitable) and was later ported to other platforms. Structured around shooting rows of aliens, the game influenced other games and has often been used in pop culture to symbolize early arcade video games.

- Uncle Traveling Matt wanders into an arcade in the second season Fraggle Rock episode "All Work and All Play." He doesn't comprehend why Silly Creatures frustrate themselves, but ends up playing Space Invaders himself.
- The seventh season Muppet Babies episode "It's Only Pretendo" shows Galaxy Invaders as one of Baby Gonzo's video games.
- In Elmopalooza, chauffeur Grover claims his limo has a built-in video map, but instead has a built-in video gaming system. He adds that his chicken companion has gotten the high score on Space Invaders on it (immediately foreshadowing the arrival of the Martians).
