Spalding Monster appeared in the Monsterpiece Theater episode, "Monster in a Box" (which Spalding himself wrote). As per the title, he is supposed to be in the box, but he instead appears under the box and on the box, so Alistair Cookie gives him a hand.
He also appeared in the Monsterpiece Theater episode "Room at the Top," performed this time by David Rudman.
His name is a reference to Spalding Gray, an actor and playwright, and his performance film Monster in a Box, consisting entirely of Gray's monologue.
