Sesame Street Stand By Your Can
"Stand By Your Can" is an original Sesame Street song that was performed by Hammy Swinette. Hammy sings about the problems with litter, and where it should be put. She sings with a Muppet trash can beside her, eating up the yummy garbage that people (and pigs) put in it.
The song and singer are parodies of country artist Tammy Wynette and her hit "Stand By Your Man."
Ivy Austin (voice of Hammy) performed the song live, accompanied by Christopher Cerf (piano) and Paul Rudolph (percussion) at the "Sing: The Music of Sesame Street" event at the Museum of the Moving Image on August 18, 2019.
Notes[]
- Performers for the segment include David Rudman (Hammy, puppetry and speaking voice), Martin P. Robinson (trash can and announcer), Richard Hunt, Kathryn Mullen, Jerry Nelson (pigs), Camille Bonora, Peter MacKennan, Jim Martin, and Carmen Osbahr (as Anything Muppets). Additional vocals were supplied by Christopher Cerf and Paul Jacobs.[1]
