Sterling Elephant appears in the "Kermit the Frog, Private Eye" segment of the Little Muppet Monsters episode "In the Beginning."
When Kermit trips on Sterling Elephant's wallet, he figures it's a clue about Miss Piggy's stolen piggy bank. He and Fozzie Bear travel to Africa and the South Pole to follow his trail, where it's eventually revealed that Sterling is an accomplice to Banana Nose Maldonado.
Sterling sports a mustache and wears a suit, hat, and sunglasses in his identification photo. He's in this guise when he serves as a mode of transportation for Kermit and his companions, but quickly strips down naked in a straw telephone booth to disguise himself.
