The Storyteller Bunny visits the Bunny Picnic in the 1986 special The Tale of the Bunny Picnic. He tells the story of "The Fox and the Giant Hedgehog," which inspires Bean Bunny to come up with a plan to defeat the farmer's Dog.
Near the end of the special, it is revealed that the narrator is an aged Bean Bunny himself, who is the new Storyteller Bunny.
The Storyteller travels around in an elaborate bicycle-powered wagon which also doubles as his puppet stage. In 2025 the wagon and other elements from it (minus the bicycle) were sold by Julien's Auctions as part of The Jim Henson Company 70th Anniversary Auction, giving Muppet fans a closer look at the details for the first time. The bulk of it is made of wood, with various elements made of cast resin and painted to represent such things as bells, horns, and light boxes. Actual metal is also utilized for smaller details, while the roof tops are covered with thick paper dyed blue and hand-painted to look worn. Other elements such as the bike's handlebars and seat and smaller Muppet-sized props that have become detached were also part of the sale. A first edition copy of the special's storybook adaptation was included with the sale.[1]
