"Subtraction Blues" was sung by David in Episode 0691 on Sesame Street.
After getting a large pizza at Hooper's Store, David travels down Sesame Street, singing about how he's been "sittin' and cryin' all day" as he watches each slice being taken away, first by Mr. Hooper, then by Maria and Jay. Left with only one slice, a group of kids run by and bump into him, sending his final piece onto the pavement. David tosses the last slice into Oscar's trash can, where Oscar throws him a quick thanks from inside.
When the song was rerecorded for album use, the lyrics were changed to describe different scenarios that cause him to lose his pizza: swapping one piece for chocolate milk, giving another to a friend, one slice slipping into a goldfish bowl, and the last slice being stolen by his dog.
