Tyco released at least two Sesame Street Surprise Sounds playsets in 1998 and 1999.

A kitchen playset simulated an oven with accessories for pretending to make food items such as popcorn, soup, and toast, with buttons that play recorded dialogue spoken by Elmo, Big Bird, and Cookie Monster. A commercial aired featuring kids playing with the set while Telly Monster, Zoe, and Herry Monster waited at the dinner table expressing their increasing levels of hunger.

A toy cash register included the typical features found in machinery used in a grocery store checkout aisle with buttons to play dialogue spoken by Ernie, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and Elmo. A working cash drawer holds play money that can be exchanged for plastic food items such as a wedge of cheese, or a credit card reader as an alternate form of payment. The commercial produced to sell the toy starred Elmo and Telly reporting on the item during the grand opening of a supermarket.
