tagesthemen is one of Germany's main daily television news magazines on ARD broadcasters (including NDR), focusing more in-depth on the daily topics of news show tagesschau and its nightly version nachtmagazin. All three shows are produced in Hamburg and share a studio.

- On January 8, 2013, Ernie and Bert made a surprise appearance in the studio with host Ingo Zamperoni (an avowed Sesamstrasse fan since the age of four) in honor of their show's 40th anniversary. They briefly discussed the phenomenon of a "midlife crisis" and sent a celebratory "bye!" out to the viewers.
- On January 6, 2023, Grover started to clean the set behind the host Cara Miosga, while she was presenting a segment about Sesamstrasse's 50th anniversary. After the segment she interviewed Ernie, in his pajamas, and Bert, in a fancy suit, about the anniversary.
- On Januray 8, 2023, Cookie Monster is in the studio with the host Cara Miosga, and Reporter Wolle is "live" from Sesamstrasse, where the inhabitants are preparing for the 50th anniversary. However, there's a problem: the zero has gone missing, so they can only celebrate 5 years instead of 50 years. Pferd interviews Jonathan Käse as he unveils his newest creation to celebrate Sesamstrasse. They end up finding the zero behind Cara in the Tagesthemen studio.
