- They seem to be. The earliest album versions included a spoken prologue with Gordon and Susan, specially recorded as an intro to the record. Later releases, like Elmo Sings, cut the prologue, but seem to be the same version. It's not always easy to tell with Sesame re-issues, though, without carefully vetting each one, but up until the 90s, at least, they were all identical. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 17:46, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
It was said that this song first appeared on The Sesame Street Book & Record before being performed by Big Bird in the second season. However, in the clips that I've seen, it looked to me like the first season Big Bird puppet was used. I think this was actually sung in the first season, not the second season. -- User:Minor muppetz 15:18, September 12, 2006
- Do you have screenshots for comparison? The oldest version of this that I've seen didn't look like season 1 Big Bird. — Scott (talk) 21:45, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
- That clip looks to me like it's from 1972. -- MuppetDude 13:36, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- You're right! It was probably recorded in the first season and was rerecorded in the third season using the original soundtrack. --Jon (AKA: 184.108.40.206) 13:57, October 28, 2006 (UTC)
Ralph added that this song is "often" referred to as Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz. I've actually never seen it referred to that way. I just googled it, and I only found one reference -- warning, there's major pop-ups on that site. I want to take the word "often" out -- and really, my preference would be to take the whole sentence out, because I don't think it's the case. Any comments? -- Danny (talk) 17:35, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
