uncited info

We had a few tidbits on the article for a while that have gone uncited. I believe we discussed some of them previously and figured that it came from some press articles introducing Abby, but were never able to track them down.

  • she moves to Sesame Street from Fairyside, Queens (a pun on the Sunnyside section)
  • the daughter of Cinderella's Fairy Godmother
  • Her magic word, allerednic, is Cinderella backwards.

If anyone can find the source for those statements that would be great. I don't believe any of them have been confirmed on the show, but correct me if I'm wrong. โ€”Scott (talk) 03:42, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Here's a source for Cinderella [1] and one for Fairyside [2] โ€”Scott (talk) 17:05, December 4, 2009 (UTC)
In her first episode, she uses her magic word once. She also used it in Episode 4134. -- MuppetDude 17:17, December 4, 2009 (UTC)

Today Show Appearance?

Nate, are you sure that Abby (and/or any additional Muppets) appeared on The Today Show on December 25, 2007, as was initially announced? I scanned the entire show and didn't come across a single Muppet. If yes, let's confirm the info on 2007 and The Today Show as well. If not, let's just can it. โ€” Julian (talk) 01:06, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

What's the source on Abby's mom being Cinderella's fairy godmother? -- Danny (talk) 02:25, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Peter added it back in October, 2006, but I have no idea where it came from. I certainly can't remember it being mentioned in the Abby episodes I've seen, but I might have missed it. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 02:28, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Ditto for her magic word: allerednic. I've heard her say "That's so magic" and Gotta poof" on the show, but never allerednic. โ€”Scott (talk) 04:02, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
That one's sourced, actually, just not clearly (I think it was reworked in the history from an early version which just copied mostly from articles and such). It was mentioned in one or more of the articles about the character before she appeared, along with the "dragonfly" thing (which I'm also not sure ever made it into the show). I think it's somewhere in the mess of links at the end, but I don't have time or energy to go through them right now. However, if anything can be sourced through them *but* has yet to be mentioned anywhere on the show, I think it merits a seperate note at the end, as "early development" or "publicity bio" or something. The Cinderella's fairy godmother thing doesn't seem to come from any of those, at least googling and browsing awhile back showed nothing. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 06:26, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
No response in weeks, and Peter hasn't been around to answer, so I'll add a cite tag to both items for now. Later on, I'll go through the articles, and if I don't find anything about Cinderella, I'll take it out until/unless confirmation shows up (at this point, it's doubtful Peter would even remember his source anyway). -- Andrew Leal (talk) 23:14, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I have no idea where I got that thing about her mom specifically being Cinderella's Fairy Godmother. I'm pretty sure I didn't make it up, but I can't find anything to back it up right now. I may have just made an incorrect assumption. As for the "allerednic" thing, I don't think I added it, but I've seen in sprinkled around the web. The only problem is, it looks like it's in a bunch of places that could have sourced it from the Wiki. Definitely found a source for Abby speaking Dragonfly and Firefly, though: http://www.tvguide.com/News-Views/Interviews-Features/Article/default.aspx?posting=%7B264BA8CF-C482-4DA5-AB75-1B24D786F08A%7D -- Peter (talk) 19:24, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Today Show Appearance

According to Leslie's site, the Today Show appearance was supposed to be August 11. Where did you hear it got moved to Monday, August 14th? Did I get up this morning for nothing???Theatrefreak25 12:48, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

It was probably moved due to yesterday's terrorism threats, since they did a good amount of commentary on that. Sometimes morning shows just don't have enough time for everything. Scooter 13:56, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Well, Scooter is apparently an insider. But it was sent out in Leslie's mailing list 13 hours ago. Subscribe! Note that Charlie Gibson will be doing the interviewing on ABC, Ann Curry (tentatively) on Today. -- Zanimum 15:57, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't know, appears you're more of the insider than I am with this...Scooter 18:24, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Are you on her mailing list? She's been big with the updates lately. -- Danny (talk) 18:34, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Well, I thought I was on the mailing list, but since I have not received anything since the confirmation from "Spunky," apparently I did not sign up correctly. I sorry to have bothered everyone with what they seem to deem an unworthy question. Theatrefreak25 02:49, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

"a little Fairy God-Child."

[3] Leslie's saying Abby's a fairy god-child, suggesting she's training to become a fairy Godmother, not a pixie-type fairy. Her mistake, or Sesame Workshop's press people's mistake? They've never had a monster as a fairy godmother on the show before, so visually she seems more like a fairy, but you never know. -- Zanimum 19:32, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

She's not a monster, and Leslie's site is correct. Fairy in training. Scooter 19:42, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
She's not a monster, really? People are going to be making a lot of mistakes about that. โ€” Scott (talk) 20:07, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
She doesn't look like a monster. She looks like an Anything Muppet. -- Peter (talk) 20:10, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, the official Sesame Workship bio says she comes from a long line of fairy godmothers. But her design is more Tinker Bell-like, and why not? Basically, it seems fairy and fairy god-child are interchangeable in this case. And yeah, in the promo they're currently airing, she looks a lot less like a monster and more humanoid. Andrew Leal (talk) 20:29, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
In the high resolution photos I've seen of her up close, she's all furry like a monster. My mistake. โ€” Scott (talk) 20:36, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, she's textured, but she's not as furry as the press images suggested (that's what I'd assumed at first as well). If you get a chance, PBS is running a "Meet Abby" promo before each current Sesame Street episode, in preparation for the new season, as Abby tries (and fails) to "poof" herself to the street. Andrew Leal (talk) 20:46, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
She's made of a short pile newer fur, but she isn't a monster.Scooter

Abby in the Fur

Taken from the Season 37 presskit, here's a sneak peek at Abby Cadabby. I don't know if we want to use it on the main article, since Scott would have to resize it and no doubt better images will be available when the season starts, but it's here to satisfy the curious. Andrew Leal (talk) 22:44, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

I don't see what's so bad about that one, looks good to me. Scooter 00:07, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Well, it was a smaller image which I had to resize to even get to 200px, including frame, so it looks slightly pixellated. Without frame would be better, and while out of necessity I'll admit I've been using 200px images for many of the international actors (where absolutely no other source could be found), I feel less comfortable bending the limits for characters especially when better images will likely be available (the best solution, outside of replacement, is for Scott to place a whitespace frame so it fits between the performer/designer boxes). Andrew Leal (talk) 01:12, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
I agree with Scooter, I think it's fine for now. I agree, we'll have better images soon enough, but if anybody sees the press on Abby and wants to get a look at her, then it's cool to have a picture on this page. -- Danny (talk) 02:55, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
There is also a full-body version of the same image here, on the login page for the artwork library. -- Zanimum 15:41, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Just because she's described a "fairy in training", does that necessarily mean she is a fairy? Or is she just like Zoey, always dressed in a costume of what she'd like to be when she grows up? -- Zanimum 12:22, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

No, she really is a fairy. She does magic. -- Danny (talk) 13:38, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Oh. Okay, that's unique. -- Zanimum 13:42, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
What's with SS's fixation with fairies lately? Last season was full of them and other magic-doers. -- Scott (talk) 13:45, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
It is a trend recently, with The Winx Club, fairy-ized versions of Treasure Trolls in Trollz, and Disney launching a line of fairy toys to compete/supplement their Princesses line, and build up hype for the relatively unannounced CGI film starring Tinkerbelle. Did they ride many other trends before? Can't think of any, because Rocko was decade after the pet rock craze. -- Zanimum 15:50, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Is it Abby or Abba Cadabby? I trust the originator of this article more than I do the press. -- Scott (talk) 23:23, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

The TVGuide.com article said Abby Cadabby; Brad just made a mistake when he created the "Abba Cadabby" article. -- Danny (talk) 00:10, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
It's definitley Abby.Scooter 00:15, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

TV Week is spelling her last name Caddaby (DDB), instead of Cadabby (DBB). -- Zanimum 12:20, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Her official name is Abby Cadabby. Scooter 19:04, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Another name question here: the Jim Henson Company spells her name 'Abby Kadabby' in this Red Book entry: http://www.henson.com/jimsredbook/2012/04/23/4231983/. I'm assuming it's a spelling error but they are a pretty darn authoritative source. Max riverbottom (talk)

Just an error. By now, we've seen Abby Cadabby used in credits, books, merchandise, etc., plus Henson doesn't actually own Abby or create her. It's just a typo on Karen Falk's part. -- Andrew Leal (talk) 00:12, April 30, 2013 (UTC)

Where'd this info come from? --MuppetVJ 06:26, 9 Jan 2006 (UTC)

I think User:Scooter posted the first part, and User:Vard posted the designer info. They're both good sources. -- Danny Toughpigs 16:27, 12 Jan 2006 (UTC)
I presume we can't be privy to her physical appearance? -- Zanimum 15:48, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
Season 37 starts up in August, so you'll see her in four months. Unless some press materials hit the circuit. -- Scott Scarecroe 16:57, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
She's pink. -- Danny Toughpigs 17:45, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
