Hi I found a television guide with pictures and stuff about the early show.. And there they mentioning Abelardo as the friendly Dragon... {Greetings Paul 12:15, 20 June 2009 (UTC)}

A character described as having "the tenderness of an innocent dragon" does not make him a dragon. This conflicts with Andrew's findings in the CTW archives that list him as a crocodile. CTW documents trump a Mexican TV guide anyway. โ€”Scott (talk) 22:58, June 13, 2010 (UTC)

Picture of Abelardo Dragon/crocodile

Hey, thanks for the picture. These are really difficult to find. Televisa co-produced plaza Sesamo with CTW in the 70's, but in the earthquake of 1985, they lost most of the material they had on many of their earlier shows that they used to keep in one of the buildings that collapsed. Other TV programs have been restored from copies on foreign TV stations or from tapes made by viewers. However I havenยดt seen any o the original Plaza Sesamo. Maybe the fact that VCRs were not very popular until later and the fact that it was a daily program and reruns were abundant, nobody ever thought of taping it.

I have been thinking on looking for more pictures in magazines at the National library, but it might be difficult to get a scan of the magazines there. The characters used to appear very often on TV guides.

It is curious for me that a whole phenomenon that influenced many people, will disappear from history because the records of its existence were lost in an earthquake. Many artists of recent fame were consciously and unconsciously influenced by that earlier Plaza Sesamo, more than the current reincarnation. Probably because the current show influence is very diluted among such a big offer in children's pogramming.

Although the footage of Abelardo seems to be vanished, its name was so embedded in popular culture that the producers of the new series had to change the name of the new character "Montoya" to "Abelardo" for a second time, not without causing some confusion to the young viewers of that time.
