Possible spoof of "Did somebody say deal"?[]
The company was the Dodge division of Chrysler Corporation. I actually do remember the commercials, where a group of men were playing poker or some other card game, and one player told another to deal, then said top-hatted, high-voiced guy would break in saying, "Did somebody say DEAL?" --PoppyseedAvenue 01:18, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
I have a feeling that Guy Smiley's intro was a parody of a commercial campaign popular around the time of 1988-1990, but I'll be darned if I can remember what company it was for. The gag was an announcer dressed in a suit and cane similar to Guy's would randomly appear in scenarios where the word "deal" was uttered, and shout this catchphrase: "Did somebody say deal?" (SIRE, anyone?) :-) Then the announcer would be then by surrounded by background singers and similar patriotic sounding music, while he did his pitch of some deal and savings, etc.
If anyone else remembers this ad and what company it was for, hopefully I can locate it on YouTube or Museum of TV & Radio or somewhere. Then, maybe we can get a consensus on whether the sketch is close enough of a parody to warrant being mentioned on the page. --Dave Splurge 00:20, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Was this song ever filmed for Sesame Street or does it only exist on audio? -- Peter (talk) 18:30, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Link to the old commercial[]
Hey, I found the link to the Dodge "Did somebody say DEAL?" commercial. So what does everyone think? Is the song "Air" a direct parody of this commercial or is it just inspired by it?
Sorry I couldn't find a copy of it with better audio.
There's another version of the commercial with dancers and the falling balloons (but both the audio and video are pretty crappy):
And here's the "Air" song with Guy Smiley for comparison:
