The Ed Christie page says that the first Muppet character he designed was Butch, but it suggests that the character was designed for a Caveman Days sketch on Sesame Street, not for The Muppet Show. The Earliest Known Appearance of the "Toothbrush" Caveman Days sketch appears to be from 1992, so my question is do we have anything to verify that Butch appeared on Sesame Street first (before May of 1979)? -- Peter (talk) 16:18, October 22, 2009 (UTC)

I think you're wrong, the tiger was made for a Muppet Show's fourth season before it debuted in the 1979 episode of Sesame Street. -- User:Dolphinguy 16:22, October 22, 2009 (UTC) (comment by unreliable banned user)
It's hard to argue with what Ed Christie said himself of his puppet. I think I may have something in the CTW archives; one episode guide I have mentions either the toothbrush or orange juice segment appearing in a season 10 episode, which would've likely been filmed in 1978. -- MuppetDude 16:41, October 22, 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, the information was added by Nick from an interview Ed gave. I just wanted to confirm this information before adding it to the Butch page. An episode guide would be a good source for that. -- Peter (talk) 16:43, October 22, 2009 (UTC)
Found it: in episode 1291, the guide mentions that cavemen invent orange juice, and this bit was taped the same time as the toothbrush bit in that both segments use the exact same sets and lighting, puppets, and puppeteeers. The show was from season 10, which would've been done during TMS's third season. -- MuppetDude 17:48, October 30, 2009 (UTC)
