The article states: "Since Disney's acquisition of the Muppets, the two writers have been in discussions with Disney about reviving the project as a film." ... What's the source for that? — Scott (talk) 02:30, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Well, color me tickled pink! Jeff Marx e-mailed me back, and has provided some corrections for the page. Here's what he wrote in the e-mail:

Let me clear up a few things that are incorrect in the article...

Yes, when Disney bought the Muppets, we were approached about making "Kermit, Prince of Denmark" into a film. Chris Curtin was the Disney guy in charge of the Muppets, and he was the one we were talking to. It looked like it was a "go" -- until Chris left the company, and that was the last we ever heard of the project.

(And that's showbiz, folks...)  ;)

We wrote the songs in 1999 (not the mid-90's). I don't know that I'd say we "produced a spec script" -- we wrote 8 songs and a plot treatment and figured if they came out any good, we'd send them to Henson and see if they were interested. When Brian turned it down, we realized we shouldn't spend our time and energy writing for other people's characters (and then hoping the owners of the characters would want to buy our work)... We decided to create our own damn characters. That became Avenue Q.

The correct titles of the songs mentioned are "Claudius Is Gonna Be King (For A While)" and "Talk"

We won the Kleban for our lyrics, not for the script. Our share of the $150,000 was $37,500. For us at the time, that was an absolute fortune.

I realize this is an older discussion, but I had a question. According to this letter, Jeff Marx refers to the song as "Claudius Is Gonna Be King (For a While)". The title I added to the page a while ago, and the one that is still on the page, came from an email from Robert Lopez. Soooo... both would know what their song was called. Did we decide to just stick with "Claudius Rejoices (King for a While)"? --Justin 06:40, February 2, 2010 (UTC)
