Kermit's fleece changed during the Muppet Show?[]
Didn't Kermit look a bit different during the first season of "The Muppet Show"? I remember he was brighter green and had a single collar in about 1976-77, and was made out of a fuzzier kind of fleece (like Bert in 1973), but he changed to a darker green and his fleece texture changed for at least "The Muppet Movie" in 1979. When exactly did this happen? During which season of "The Muppet Show"?
Wasn't his voice also deeper during the early seasons of "The Muppet Show", also?

No appearances in 1970-71?[]
I noticed one Kermit puppet was shown for 1970-1976. I thought I read that Kermit the Frog did not appear on Sesame Street in any new segments from 1970-71 (season 2). Shouldn't the date be 1971 next to the screen capture from the "long and short" Sesame Street segment (the last "double collar" Kermit puppet)?

- Although there were no new Kermit sketches taped Sesame Street's 2nd season, my guess is that in 1970 this particular puppet may have been used for other productions outside the Street. One such clue of for this possibility was the Kermit used in the What Kind of Fool Am I? song on The Ed Sullivan Show on May 31, 1970. Perhaps someone else here has some additional evidence. --Dave Splurge 01:08, July 11, 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, he was off the show *precisely* because Henson was still using the character for variety and talk shows, commercials, and other appearances (and some of the later first season stuff was of course taped in 1970). -- Andrew Leal (talk) 01:44, July 11, 2010 (UTC)
Rick Lyon's eBay listing[]
I just added some information about the fleece from which Kermit was built starting in 1978. Rick Lyon's eBay listing has ended and so the page isn't accessible, but for archival purposes, here's what it said:
"You are bidding on one yard of an extremely rare fabric - THE original Kermit The Frog fleece fabric from the Malden Mills run that was custom manufactured to make the licensed Fisher Price Kermit the Frog plush puppets and dolls in 1978. What makes this fabric so extraordinary is that Jim Henson's Muppet workshop actually started making the TV and film-used Kermit puppets from this same fabric used for the toys! That was part of Jim's licensing deal with Fisher Price - they could sell Kermit toys as long as they gave him as much as he wanted of the custom fleece fabric he knew Fisher Price would have to have manufactured. Smart man! From 1978 until just recently, this is what was used to make the real Kermit puppets. Ultra rare! This is NOT the same as the nylon fleece that other Muppets are made of - this fleece is polyester, and knit of yarn-dyed fibre, meaning the fibre is green before it's woven into fabric, producing the absolutely unique and instantly recognizable vivid Kermit green color. The pile is also shorter and denser than nylon fleece, helping to make seams nearly invisible, and it does not stretch as much as the nylon fleece. This piece you are bidding on is one yard by approximately 60 inches wide. One yard is more than enough to make a frog puppet, if that's your desire. (I made my personal "Kermit the Fraud" puppet, as seen on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, of this fabric. See first photo.) No international bidders. Fabric is over forty years old and is sold "As Is." See photos for condition. (NOTE: Your yard will NOT contain the Malden logo - image only included for reference.) NO RETURNS. SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY! Bids will only be accepted from buyers with 100% positive feedback. Own an ultra-rare piece of Muppet history!"
