A Mommy by any other name...[]
Ordinarily, Sesame Street characters who begin without official names end up with whichever name a sketch writer chooses first: Mr. Hooper officially became "Harold Hooper" when he needed a first name on his GED certificate, and the best-known of many Fat Blue Muppets officially became "Mr. Johnson" when Grover needed to verify his customer's name.
What does all this have to do with Elmo's mother? I'm getting to it: was the name "Gladys" rejected later so that viewers/listeners wouldn't confuse the new Muppet with Gladys the Cow? Or was she kept nameless because "relative" Muppets rarely need to use their names. (I've never heard of Cookie Monster's or Rosita's many family members talking to unrelated adults, for instance...) --Ingeborg 23:04, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Where does the Fran Brill credit come from? Leslie voices her for an episode in the upcoming season, if that counts. User:Scooter 05:12, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- I didn't know that. The credit came from an NPR segment (voices only) of a segment specially geared for families with members who are in the Iraq War. Fran's voice is heard as Elmo's Mom. But it's good to know that we'll finally be able to see Elmo's mother this season (hopefully Bill will come around as his dad as well). -- MuppetDude 13:08, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

- Elmo's mom is only heard in voiceover for one scene, and Elmo's dad is not in season 37. Scooter 00:35, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
