Should we put Rufus in the Sesame Street characters category, seeing as we have proof that he did appear on SS? ---- Jesse (talk) 00:50, December 1, 2009 (UTC)

Or not, because the piece may not have aired? ---- Jesse (talk) 01:18, December 1, 2009 (UTC)
Ah, if only I had something more substantial than fan-memory to go on ... I remember the (possibly one and only) SS episode with Rufus that aired during the 2nd season. It was notable because special footage featuring Rufus was used during the Sesame Street Theme -- I never saw them use that opening again. During the main show, Gordon helps Rufus run a lemonade stand. He sells several glasses to the SS regulars, then drinks the rest of the lemonade himself. His intake for the day is 10 pennies. Gordon tells Rufus he's "practically rich," as 10 cents (back then) could buy ten pieces of bubble gum, or 10 penny candies. Unfortunately, Mr. Hooper shows up to collect the 10 cents Rufus owes for the lemons and sugar he had bought on credit from Hooper's store earlier, so poor Rufus ended up with zero profit. I've added this to my ever-growing watchlist of SS videos I hope to find online some day. -- 5:00weasel 19:38, January 19, 2011 (UTC)

Sources[]

This article said that Rufus appeared on Sesame Street in 1969. What's the source for that? How did he appear?

Also, is there a source for Frank Oz performing Rufus? -- Danny (talk) 02:05, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Both pieces of information were added by anons at the beginning of the article. β€” Scott (talk) 01:36, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
I don't know about the other Rufus appearances, but I do believe that sounded like Frank barking/howling in that Herb Alpert special in 1974. I'll look at the tape again, but visually it looks like Frank's puppeteering style. --Dave Splurge 02:50, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, it's definitely Henson in Tinkerdee. He had at least two, and possibly three, performers. I think we should leave the performer box out, unless somebody has really clear evidence for the other performers. -- Danny (talk) 14:05, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
Rufus did appear on Sesame Street. There's a picture of him with Bob, Susan, and a kid on the Hooperfan website. Here's a picture:
