Minella[]

Minella

Sal's name has been written this way at least two times: once in the Prince episode of Muppets Tonight, and in the credits of Muppets from Space. I vote for a move, unless anyone can specify where the spelling "Manilla" comes from (character bio, inside source, etc.). -- MuppetDude 18:13, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Oh, good call! β€”Scott (talk) 21:11, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Muppet Treasure Island[]

Scott, I left Sal in Muppet Treasure Island as that's where he made his debut, as a generic monkey. Or should it not be listed as he wasn't truly Sal yet? --Andrew, Aleal 01:55, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Oh, I thought we weren't including characters in movie specific categories unless they were exclusively from that movie. -- Scarecroe 01:56, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Hmm, maybe there's a misunderstanding. I thought we were including any for whom that movie was there very first appearance, regardless of whether they were reused later (like Yolanda Rat or Old Joe). --Andrew, Aleal 01:58, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Ah, okay. I didn't get that part. So first appearances and those exclusive. Got it.
That said, I don't think MTI qualifies as Sal's first appearance as he wasn't Sal yet. But I could be in the minority on that. In which case, by all means go ahead and put him back. -- Scarecroe 02:22, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
I wouldn't include Sal in the MTI characters as it is misleading. The puppet appeared as "Monkey #1" performed by Jerry Nelson, but the character was not born until Muppets Tonight. -- BradFraggle 01:27, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I agreed with Scott's explanation, and let it stand. However it does make me wonder if it's equally misleading to include him in the background Muppet cast list in the film's entry, if it predates that. And in that sense, did Jane Gootnick build Sal, or did she just build monkey #1? Although we're veering once again into the wonderful world of Muppet semantics here, of course. --Andrew, Aleal 02:44, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
Jane built Monkey #1, and since Monkey #1 is the same exact puppet used for Sal technically she built the puppet used for Sal. I would credit her for building Sal, but would not credit Sal as a character in MTI (but a trivia note about the puppet's origin would be nice)... You can read Brian Henson's quote on the issue of Sal's origin [[Quotes: Brian Henson#On_Sal|here]].-- BradFraggle 21:25, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
