This trailer uses "You Get What You Give" by the New Radicals. Fitting with the parody theme, the song is used in a lot of trailers. Do we cover this on the wiki because it was used to sell The Muppets? I can't remember if we had anything close to a policy on this sort of thing. —Scott (message me) 07:17, November 4, 2011 (UTC)

There are no examples that come to mind for this for me. The rule of thumb for music has been if a song is used in a film, it does get a page (although the artist performing does not if they didn't record it specifically for the project). I'd love to have the song on the wiki (as I love it), I just don't know if it would technically be a "Muppet Movie Song." Maybe we can have Ken chime in as our resident music expert. -- Nate (talk) 15:14, November 4, 2011 (UTC)
I'm thinking that the past ten years of internet and viral marketing have changed the way a franchise stays in the public eye. The Muppets have been a shining example of that. And it seems that, for the last year anyway, all of the trailers and clips and appearances online have counted as new Muppet material. So instead of "hey here's just another movie trailer that's going to be shown in cinemas" trailers have evolved into just the latest video the Muppets are appearing in online. If we look at it that way, then "You Get What You Give" is just another song that was used in a Muppet video. —Scott (message me) 17:01, November 4, 2011 (UTC)
I asked Danny about it back when the Green with Envy trailer came out, and our conversation is here. He said it didn't count, but I was wondering why, since we always mention whenever we see things like old film clips in Muppet Babies episodes, or things like actual products in the background of a scene. So to me, that would mean that we would give "You Get What You Give" and/or The New Radicals a page, because their song appeared in a Muppet production, even though it's a trailer for a Muppet film. I know that "We Built This City" is different, because it's on the soundtrack album, so we're pretty sure it's going to be in the actual movie. Anyway, I didn't talk about it further back then, since I figured more people would have thoughts later on, so anybody else have any thoughts? -- Ken (talk) 03:22, November 5, 2011 (UTC)
