This is a scan of a script of The Muppet Movie, dated June 12, 1978. Jerry Juhl sent it to me back when I was doing MuppetZine. I wrote a series of articles about it on Tough Pigs in 2002: "The Road to Hollywood". Now it's 10 years later, we're working on the wiki, and I'm getting less sensitive about posting stuff like this on the internet. :)
So -- as described in that Tough Pigs article, I don't know how many more drafts there were between this script and the final shooting script. The film's structure and all the major scenes are in this draft, but there were a lot of small (but significant) changes. Paul Williams hadn't written the songs yet, and they hadn't cast any of the guest star cameos, so a lot of the musical numbers and cameo scenes in this draft are essentially placeholders. They also cut a number of extraneous scenes (including a lot of extra Doc Hopper chase material), they made Max a more sympathetic character, and they introduced Animal and Scooter earlier in the film.
Another small but very significant change after this draft: they re-focused Kermit's basic motivation for going to Hollywood from becoming "rich and famous" to "making millions of people happy".
So, here's the whole thing! I'm posting it here because I'm not sure exactly how to use it right now... Is this a page? I'm not sure. Obviously, it can be used to add extra information to a lot of the movie-related pages. So I'm posting it and then we can figure out what to do with it. :) What do you guys think? -- Danny (talk) 02:12, July 8, 2012 (UTC)
- Yay, thanks for scanning this! I don't know what this is either (an article? a source depository?) but I'm glad it's here. —Scott (message me) 00:58, July 9, 2012 (UTC)
