Terry and the Pirates is an adventure comic strip (1936-1973) created by Milt Caniff. The strip told the adventures of Terry (initially a younger boy, aging up enough to enlist in WWII) who with punch-throwing adventurer Pat Ryan traveled to China and engaged with pirates, smugglers, and assorted stereotypes.
Caniff left the strip over ownership issues in 1946, with George Wunder taking over (assisted by Frank Springer). The comic influenced later adventure comics (and Hanna-Barbera's Jonny Quest) and spawned a radio series, movie serials, and TV show.
