The Adventures of Grover in Outer Space is a Sesame Street storybook featuring Grover.
Just before his bedtime, Grover has been watching a Space Shuttle launch on TV. His mommy tells him he could become an astronaut someday, but first he needs his sleep. In his bed, Grover imagines what it would be like to travel in space.
In his dream, Grover is the solo crew member of a mission in space who rockets away from the Earth and speeds past Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Beyond the reaches of the solar system, Grover spots an unidentified world he decides to name Planet Grover. Nearly making a crash landing, Grover pilots the ship to the surface where he's delighted to find that all of the flora is blue — his favorite color.
A small, pink monster appears from the brush who identifies themselves as Meep. Grover explains that he's here to explore the planet, so Meep invites him to attend school. Grover finds that Meep's classroom is filled with all blue objects, and that their classmates and teacher are all the same shade of pink.
Throughout the day, Grover tries blue cookies and plays on the see-saw, but realizes that he should be getting home soon. He invites Meep to come with him, but Meep consults his blue watch and notes that his Mommy Meep is expecting him home soon for dinner. Grover lifts off and soon finds himself making a landing in the desert back on Earth with a great bump.
In his bedroom, Grover's mommy finds him on the floor next to his bed. As he expounds on his adventure, Grover's mommy tucks him back into bed, but admits that he's glad to be back home.
